The Colgate Wisp

As MUA’s, Hairstylists, Fashion Stylists, Designers etc.. We’re often running from job to job. Since we all work in other people’s personal space it’s important to keep our own personal hygiene in check. One would think this is common sense but you’d be surprised how many people I’ve worked with who don’t take the people they’re working with into consideration.
You’ll want to make sure that you don’t have ring around the collar, dirty fingernails, body odor or bad breath. Don’t neglect yourself simply because you’re work work working all day long. Excuse yourself if you’re sweating and get to the rest room. Re-apply your deodorant and blot your face..
The best part of keeping yourself feeling fresh is this little doohicky that Colgate has come out with! It fits easily in any train case, personal little bag, glove compartment etc because it’s only 3.5 inches long. I know it's not brand new but it's definitely overlooked :)
It’s called the ‘Wisp’. The ‘Wisp’ is a single use, disposable toothbrush that you don’t need water to use!! Imagine, being in a cab on your way to meet a client and you can go ahead and freshen up right there!!! Iiiiiiiii know!! It’s got a soft brush on one end and a pick on the other. So you have two different ways of cleaning your teeth.
This little do-dad has breath freshening bead in it that come in peppermint, spearmint and something they call cinnamint..
You can get your Wisp at any drug store or grocery store in the US. It’s only about $2.39 for a two pack and about $7.99 for a 16 pack.

Essentials for Every Aspiring Make-Up Artist

I've received quite a few emails and comments on how you too can become a makeup artist. Though im a big believer that practice makes perfect I realize that some of you may live in a state where a license or certificate is required in order to work and charge your clients. Though NYS isn't one of those states I dont want to be a "stateist" (yep it's a word...well now it is, lol) and assume everyone's state laws are like mine :)

That being said, there are some tools that I personally believe are essential in order to be able to present yourselves as professionals in the eyes of your clients. This is limited to actual products that can help you along in your career, I won't touch much on classes or education which is kind of a no-brainer. Im assuming none of you would have the audacity to see a cover girl commercial and suddenly think you too are an artist, lol. Trust me I've come across quite a few of those.

Anyhow, I'd like to start with my personal picks as far as books are concerned. Yes, im well aware that there are many to choose from but these in particular will benefit you ALL. The first, written by the amazing Crystal Wright.

This little bible will touch on so many different topics that will help you start/further your career. It can also serve as a reminder/refresher when you are brainstorming on ways to stand out amongst the ocean of other artists out there. It is a bible, trust me!

The second is also from Crystal Wright in the form of an ebook. It has got to be the most convenient way to tote her wisdom along with you!!

Both of these fountains of essential information will include not only tips and tricks but also interviews from professional working artists, stylists, and the like giving you first hand insight on what they've gone through, how they've paid their dues (cuz you KNOW you gotta pay them dues before you become ANYONE) and suggestions they have for you to make it in this glamour world we live in.

In reading both of these books I can tell you that, as with anything else, you have to really want it. You have to have the fire and the passion that it takes to make it doing what you love. Let me also tell you that these little gems also are filled with motivation so Crystal has really just gift wrapped success for you and it's up for grabs.

With samples of resume's, comp card suggestions, website, books and more. Honest to goodness, how can you even sit there knowing that your career is just WAITING for you to get into action???

I realize we may all work a "regular day job" because our MUA Careers don't yet hold sufficient monetary compensation for us to live off of just yet (lord why can't we can't all be Monifa Mortis or Joanna Schlip?? whyyyy?!). Ahem, sorry, just venting there, lol.. BUT we can do what we can to move forward and climb our way to the top :) There's plenty of room up there but you're not going to get there by procrastinating.

Visit her blog and learn more about how you can also be the best Hairstylist, Makeup Artist, Manicurist, Stylist....YOU. ;)

Fall Line Up

Don't blink or you'll miss the rest of the summer!!!

I know we're juuuust starting to feel like summer and already we're seeing "Back to School" sales going on. The poor kids barely started their summer and already parents are ready to send them back. I for one, was disgusted to see the first back to school sale commercial and flipped the channel when it came on to spare my li'l guy.

For the rest of us however, we do have to be sure we're prepared with next seasons trends so we can be on the cusp of what's "now"....lest we get bypassed by someone who did... Never that!! LOL.

Anywhoodles, looking at the bright side of things lets look at what dropped into my inbox from the email fairies for the color of the season... Betcha can't guess... Betcha can:)

For those of you who said "Red", you get a gold star... If you said "True Red" then you get a Platinum Star!! LOL... It's not about brown reds or orange reds it's a true red that will keep you right where you need to be this Fall. Thanks to the folks at "Who, What, Where" we have this information nice and early so we can make sure our kits have at least one or two true red lipsticks ready to use:)

Moving right along to what we (or they) will be WEARING this fall... The lovely people at were kind enough to email this lovely montage:

I know it's kind of small, but what you're seeing here is plaids, prints & heavy metals. So when you're out shopping, feel free to pick up a trendy top or bottom to show that you're not COMPLETELY out of it. Artists are unique, yes, but they're not without style. Doesn't have to be the style everyone else is wearing, but let it be known that you're in the "Know".

"To Be A Star"

"To Be A Star"

I'd like to introduce you all to the new upcoming event called "To Be a Star".
This is a web based reality show to kick all other reality shows butts!! LOL.. And I'm not just saying that because I'm going to be a part of it..LOL.. well, maybe just a little..:)

But seriously, this new reality show is a documentary web reality series. It follows 10 young ladies as they do all they can to become stars. This show will have mentors and celebrity guests to help guide the girls in the right direction. They will go through what they're calling "Star Boot camp" to whip them into shape for Star Status!!!

There will be 10 episodes for your viewing pleasure that include challenges that lead to "money can't buy" prizes and of course experiences that will never be forgotten.

Where will Iiiiiiii be in all of this you ask? Well I'm glad you did..LOL.. I will be featured makeup artist on the show. I will be working on the photo shoots that the girls will be taking part in on the show. Along side Chris Lanston who is the Make Up Artist Mentor on the show, we will create flawless beauties to be photographed. Seriously, I can't wait!!!

The following information was taken directly from the "To Be a Star" Facebook page as it best describes the series:

To achieve success in modeling, acting or entertainment, it takes more than pretty head shots, an expensive portfolio, or weeks or months of training from some less-than-reputable ‘modeling school.’ Putting 200 pictures of yourself on a bunch of modeling portfolio websites will not turn you into a star either.

There is only ONE way to become a star – surround yourself with people who have already become stars, train with them, learn from them, tap into all of their connections throughout the entertainment industry, and pursue stardom with passion, dedication, and a willingness to go above and beyond to achieve your dreams.

‘To Be a Star’ Academy is a journey like none other – through our program, you will:

* Develop the skills necessary to break into the industry & have success;
* Develop your own personal brand to create your own marketable niche;
* Network with an array of mentors, and their networks, to meet the power brokers of the industry;
* Develop a marketing plan and a business plan to promote yourself;
* Implement both and reach for the Stars
Our objective is to help you maximize your potential. Perhaps you have what it takes to become a Supermodel. Or maybe you have the natural talent to become the next big movie star. Perhaps you can be the next Miley Cyrus, or Britney Spears, or Hayden Panettiere, or Blake Lively.

We don’t want to help you land a magazine spread or a small TV commercial. We want to turn you into a STAR – a truly marketable star, who is versatile enough to become a multi-dimensional talent – appear in magazines, star in television shows and movies, become a top brand endorser in ad campaigns and TV commercials, get your own perfume, your own clothing line or cosmetics contract. Become a STAR.

The first episode premiers on September 7th, 2009. So mark your calendars!! You'll be able to view it on the following websites:

To be taken to their You Tube site, simply click on the title of this blog.
See you there!
