Makeup artistry is a trade. It's hard to believe that there are still people out there who either don't know this or just don't realize just how true it is. (you bettah recognize!!....LOL).
It's fairly obvious to me, however, who has a passion for what they do and who is just passing the time just getting by on minimal effort.
Those of us with passion also have a sense of urgency about us. We are always trying to learn new things, perfect our techniques and expend our knowledge base. We ALL know that if we don't keep up with the newest, latest tricks and trends, we will become obsolete.
As hard as it is in this economy to find well paying jobs, we just can't afford to be lazy. So we read Vogue, Allure, Marie Claire, W, Glamour, Harpars and Cosmo. We refer back to them for inspiration and ideas. We try to keep up with the latest trends, tricks and makeup.
We love our jobs , we love makeup, we're ready to do what we need to do to make it.. and make it BIG... but... have we? I know I have and continue to. Here's a tip....
The single most important magazine that seems to escape many makeup artists, strangely enough, is Makeup Artist Magazine. WHAT?!?! SERIOUSLY?!?
It just doesn't make sense to me AT ALL. So, I figured I'd let all of you makeup artists and aspiring makeup artists know that this magazine is NOT a suggestion. This magazine is a MUST HAVE. Don't you want to be up to date on all of the most important trade shows, product reviews and articles relevant to our trade?? Sure you do!! I can feel it in my bones.. you aaaaaalllllll do!!
What's more.. you should also check out their online store: www.store.makeupmag.com. You'll find books, magazines, DVD's, Tshirts, aprons etc..And who couldn't use more snazzy li'l do-dads that can help us look more professional?
Ooooooo and the message board!!! You guys NEED to visit and request to be a part of this message board!! It's like a 911 call for any and all makeup issues, topics and stories:) Funnily enough, Makeup Artist Magazine also has a site called Makeup411.. How funny is THAT?? To have makeup info at the tips of your fingers, all in one spot for you to take in and reap the benefits of. I like THAAAATTT!! Go to www.Makeup411.com and taadaaaaahh, there you go, instant glamour on the go:)
Michael Key, editor-in-chief/publisher of Makeup Artist Magazine, (shown here with me @ the Makeup Artist Mixer) has put together a great team of people who don't just do their jobs, they love their jobs too. When you love what you do... it shows:)
